Sushi in Stockholm

Stockholm does sushi well, which is not surprising for a city that is surrounded by water, and celebrates fish at every seasonal dinner table (including Midsummer and Christmas).  Plus, if you opt for a lunch deal (dagens lunch), you really can make the most of this Japanese cuisine in Sweden.

But with so many sushi vendors around, it can be hard to know where to go… So here are three of our favourite sushi haunts in central Stockholm as recommended to us by various Japanese friends…

The Flying Fish

This place was recently brought to our attention by a Japanese friend and we are so glad it was! We went for lunch but they are also open for dinner and boast an excellent range of sake and Japanese beers.

Location: Danderydsgatan 23, 114 26 Stockholm
Opening Times:
Mon-Fri: 11-15, 16-21 Sat: Closed, Sun: 17-21
Nearest T-bana: Tekniska Högskolan (Red Line)

Mutto Sushibar

Since we discovered this place a few years ago now, this family-run establishment in Vasastan has been our go to sushi place for a great everyday lunch. In fact, we frequent this place so often that they know our order by heart… ok, so we might have a sushi addiction problem…

Anyway, you can download their app to join their loyality scheme and they have recently opened a second restaurant in Hornstull, Södermalm.

Vasastan Restaurant
Location: Kungstensgatan 31113 57 Stockholm
Opening Times:
Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri: 11-15, Weds 11- 20, Sat: 12-17, Sun: Closed

Södermalm Restaurant

Tokyo Sushi Diner

Located in Hötorget’s Food Hall (Hötorgshallen), Tokyo Sushi Diner was recommended to us by some Japanese friends who used to live in Stockholm. The menu is more original than some sushi establishments and if you opt for a seat at the bar, you can even watch the chefs at work…

Location: Sergelgatan 29, 111 57 Stockholm
Opening Times:
Mon- Thurs: 10-18, Fri: 10-19, Sat: 10-16, Sun: Closed
Nearest T-bana: Hötorget (Green Line)

Beyond a shoestring budget…

And if you’re looking for something a little more from your Stockholm sushi experience, or just a little more extravagant, you can always opt for the Michelin starred SushiSho. We treated ourselves for our anniversary earlier this year (thanks to all our other shoestring savings) and it was well worth worth it…

And if you're planning on visiting Stockholm any time soon, Booking.com has some great deals on hotels in and around the city. Highly recommended!
