Ikon Cafe – for breakfast or brunch in the city

2017 UPDATE: IKON CAFE HAS NOW CLOSED but you can check out these other great places to eat in Stockholm!

Brunch is back! Following trends from the US and Europe, Sweden has also taken a liking to the brunch scene in recent years. And with popular additions such as Stockholm Brunch Club coming onto the Swedish food scene, it’s easy to see why.

Ikon Cafe – for a weekday breakfast of a lazy weekend brunch

We really love it when a new cafe-come-restaurant pops up that can hold its own when it comes to a good breakfast or brunch.

Ikon Cafe only opened in the summer of 2016 and already is beginning to draw in the crowds so a weekday breakfast seemed to be the perfect time to stop by and check it out. I ordered eggs benedict (a half portion might I add – which was plenty big enough for me) and my other half had smashed avocado on toast – and was impressed: understated, delicious food made from simple, fresh ingredients.  While we played it safe this time around (ordering these favourite classic brunch dishes), I found their breakfast menu to be more interesting than many I have seen – putting their own twist on dishes such as their ‘Cocotte’ – baked eggs with tomato, harissa and merguez sausage.

While we had every intention of moving on after breakfast, as Ikon Cafe wasn’t super busy on this particular Friday morning, we ordered a pot of tea each, opened our laptops and turned the whole thing into a working brunch. By the time we had finished, lunch service had begun and while we didn’t stay to test it out for ourselves on this occasion, the food coming out of the kitchen was definitely tempting… We’ll definitely have to make sure we head back to Ikon Cafe to test their lunch menu sometime soon!

Here at Stockholm On A Shoestring, we are all about finding places that offer good value alongside great experiences and well, Ikon Cafe does just that. And if you want to see what we mean – check out Ikon Cafe’s Instagram to get a sense of what their food is all about.
